Being on a travel team requires a commitment of both athlete and parent/family. The commitment to this team is more than to a house team and carries higher expectations. Travel baseball team expectations will differ between each level and coach.
House League Participation
Players on 8u-12u travel teams are required to participate in the house program in order to be eligible for selection to a travel team.
Cost
There is a non-refundable $500 deposit required within 3 days of registering to the team. This $500 deposit goes toward the individual's total travel fee.
Travel team fees will be used to cover things such as the travel insurance, field maintenance, practice gear, uniforms, umpire fees, tournament registration, off-season training costs, etc.
Total travel fees are ultimately determined by the team coach. Fees involved are directly formed from the team's expenses, which can vary widely depending on the off-season training plan and the number of tournaments in which the team participates. Fundraising opportunities are also coach/team decisions.
Schedule
Following the August tryouts, training can begin for some teams as early as November, with indoor practices. Each coach reserves the right to have a specialized off-season training program. A parent should contact the coach prior to tryouts to determine their projected plan, if it's a concern to the parent. Every age will have a different schedule depending on the coach and training facilities availability.
Players typically compete in the Western New York Premier Baseball Travel League and various tournaments throughout the spring and summer. Home games are held at our facility on Wehrle Dr in Amherst while road games and tournaments are played throughout WNY from April through August.
WNY Premier Baseball Travel League generally includes a minimum of 10-18 games plus playoffs. Games are typically held on Fridays and Sundays. The WNY Premier Baseball Travel League schedule runs concurrently with the house schedule.
The 8u-12u travel play in roughly 3- 6 tournaments.
The 13u-18u teams will have a much more complex schedule, where they will elect to play in a wide array of games, leagues, and tournaments. At 13 and up, there is no house requirement, so a coach may enter tournaments in May, June, July, and/or August in conjunction with some form of travel league.
