Information

If you're ready to challenge yourself and compete at a higher level, travel baseball could be the perfect opportunity for you!

In addition to providing an outstanding house league experience, Central Amherst sponsors competitive travel teams for players at the 8U level and up. These teams offer a higher level of play, skill development, and competition. Players are encouraged to try out at the youngest eligible age level for a chance to join a roster.

Any questions or concerns about the Central Amherst travel program can be directed to Matt Parrino

Age Levels

A player’s age level is based on their age at April 30th 2026. For example: a player in 8u cannot turn 9 before April 30th, 2026.

Tryouts

Tryouts occur annually at Central Amherst Fields in early- to mid-August and are scheduled by the coaches at each level. Players will be evaluated in the areas of pitching, hitting, fielding, throwing, and running. The tryouts will be conducted by the coaches identified for those age groups. Please note that travel teams have limited spots, and not every player who tries out will be selected.

Selection to a Team

Central Amherst will attempt to field two teams at every level.  Our goal is to assemble teams at each level of play with the purpose of playing competitive baseball.  We typically have a large number of players that tryout every year, unfortunately, some players will not make a Central Amherst Travel Baseball team for their particular level. If your child does not make the travel team, we strongly encourage them to continue with the house program and continue to develop their skills.

We anticipate that the final selection process will be completed by most teams by the end of August. Due to every team being a little different regarding the number of kids trying out, it may take certain teams a little longer than others.  It is the responsibility of the player’s parent/guardian to ensure that the league has been given the proper email/phone number prior to tryouts.

Upon being selected to a team players will receive an email from their coach directing them to register for the team.

Expectations

Being on a travel team requires a commitment of both athlete and parent/family. The commitment to this team is more than to a house team and carries higher expectations.  Travel baseball team expectations will differ between each level and coach.

House League Participation

Players on 8u-12u travel teams are required to participate in the house program in order to be eligible for selection to a travel team.

Cost
There is a non-refundable $500 deposit required within 3 days of registering to the team.  This $500 deposit goes toward the individual's total travel fee.

Travel team fees will be used to cover things such as the travel insurance, field maintenance, practice gear, uniforms, umpire fees, tournament registration, off-season training costs, etc.

Total travel fees are ultimately determined by the team coach.  Fees involved are directly formed from the team's expenses, which can vary widely depending on the off-season training plan and the number of tournaments in which the team participates. Fundraising opportunities are also coach/team decisions.

Schedule
Following the August tryouts, training can begin for some teams as early as November, with indoor practices. Each coach reserves the right to have a specialized off-season training program. A parent should contact the coach prior to tryouts to determine their projected plan, if it's a concern to the parent.  Every age will have a different schedule depending on the coach and training facilities availability.

Players typically compete in the Western New York Premier Baseball Travel League and various tournaments throughout the spring and summer. Home games are held at our facility on Wehrle Dr in Amherst while road games and tournaments are played throughout WNY from April through August.

WNY Premier Baseball Travel League generally includes a minimum of 10-18 games plus playoffs. Games are typically held on Fridays and Sundays. The WNY Premier Baseball Travel League schedule runs concurrently with the house schedule.

The 8u-12u travel play in roughly 3- 6 tournaments.

The 13u-18u teams will have a much more complex schedule, where they will elect to play in a wide array of games, leagues, and tournaments.  At 13 and up, there is no house requirement, so a coach may enter tournaments in May, June, July, and/or August in conjunction with some form of travel league.
